Nawal El-Saadawi
      / Two Women in One

Nawal El-Saadawi, was an Egyptian feminist writer, who boldly addressed themes of gender inequality and the struggle for women’s rights. Her book “Two Women in One” follows Bahiah Shaheen, an Egyptian medical student struggling with societal expectations and her own identity. Ultimately, she chooses self-discovery over conformity, even if it leads to imprisonment. The novel delves into themes of identity, power and the impact of societal norms on women’s lives. Designed to be bilingual in English and Arabic, the book’s photographs, colors and typography mirror Saadawi’s depiction of being trapped. The silver and black embossed book cover visually plays with reflections, shadows and the main theme of the two identities.
